Fan films began to take shape after a series of terrific films were put out by Star Wars fanatics. It was only a matter of time until the passionate and talented horror fans began to do the same. No fewer than at least twenty fan films of merit have been put out featuring our favorite hockey masked marauder. The cream with the cake is Brownspace films 2019 “Friday the 13th: Vengeance.”

Picking up many years directly after the events in “Friday the 13th Part 6:Jason Lives,” A mysterious man visits the sites of Jason and Pamela Voorhees. Shortly after, Jason returns from his watery grave (where Tommy Jarvis had him fitted with a chain neck tie at the end of Jason Lives) to meet and greet some new visitors at Crystal Lake. Fearing the worst, the local authorities quickly cover up the slaughter claiming a bear attack. The new Jarvis kids arrive in town only to find out that their “crazy” dad is off on another Jason hunt. Together with some locals, some of which have also had family members tangle with the legend in the past, the group head into the legendary woods looking for answers.

The names C.J. Graham (Friday the 13th Part 6) Tom McLaughlin (Friday the 13th Part 6) and Steve Dash (Friday the 13th Part 2) should be enough to get even the most skeptical Friday fan interested in this film, but the director/writer team of Jeremy Brown, Dustin Montierth, TC. De Witt, and Mike Meade put out a remarkable work of horror art. Vengeance has everything a Friday fan craves. Eye candy, good kills, enormous amount of tie in’s to previous films, and a terrific performance from Jason Brooks portraying the iconic role. Brooks nearly mimics Graham’s Jason from “Jason Lives,” up to his machete swing. Just a shade off from an A-list caliber shoot, the production team presents a clean well shot piece.

No major jump cuts, sound bite errors or bad performances which are usually a staple of fan films. Since the film can not legally make a profit, it was funded thru Kickstarter raising well over its 25,000 original goal. A huge feather in the cap to fans who are disgusted by the very selfish legal battle that has kept the series chained to the bottom of a legal lake. Talks of a sequel have been spewing since the release in September 2019. We will keep you posted here at horror-nation.com on any further developments so we can all get behind this talented team.
