Mahal Empire Productions has been pumping out high quality horror films at break-neck pace. The talented team has gained cult status among the horror nation since their terrific film, Bus Party to Hell. Fresh off his latest Mahal produced film, Death Count, director Michael Su returns behind the lens to bring an apocalyptic zombie thriller. Joining the talented director are iconic performers: Kate Watson (Tomb Invader,) Robert Lasardo (Strangeland,) and Michael Pare (Bad Moon.) Can this talented team conjure up something new in the saturated zombie market?
With the entire world suffering from an infectious disease that brings the dead back to life, a military unit is assigned to protect a key bridge that could be vital to take back civilization. General Vasquez (Lasardo) attempts to hold the morale of his troops up while suffering large casualties, depleting resources, and steady attacks from hordes of the undead. Vasquez sends a unit out to scout the area and secure the bridge. The unit encounters swarms of undead and a group of civilians that have been ravaged by the terror unleashed upon the world. With everyone on edge and near starvation, another problem arises. A mysterious monster is lurking around the vital bridge. This monster is larger, faster, stronger, and more viscous than anything the military has encountered. Vasquez along with Colonel Charon (Pare) must hold the bridge and defeat the monster if there is to be any chance for the human race to survive.
While the premise of military vs. zombies has been explored many times through film, Su and writer Adrian Milnes present a fresh take on an old tale. Su litters the screen with fantastic zombie attacks and enough splattered blood to keep gore hounds salivating. The extra element of a separate bloodthirsty creature from the standard zombie troupe, keeps the audience glued to the screen in eager anticipation for epic attacks. Lasardo shines as a no nonsense General, he keeps the pace moving with continuous updates on the status of the mission. Watson gives a strong physical performance as tough as a coffin nail soldier. Milnes presents a story that has been told many times but throws in original plot points that keeps the storyline flowing. Many zombie-based films have prolonged periods without any action, Bridge of the Doomed, rarely has any long breaks without terrific zombie and creature attacks. The team at Mahal once again delivers with an action-packed fear fest that everyone in the horror nation must attend.
