I have always been one to enjoy things that lie outside of the mainstream. I preferred Kmart over Target. I had collected more Go-Bots than I did Transformers, image and IDW comics overDC and Marvel. And yes, Troma films over most major studio offerings.

A Horror Zone Wedding, while a project that would make Kauffman proud, has areas of improvement as well as laugh out loud moments.

The premise is simple. Micheal Jackson Myers stalks the love of his life, only to be left at the altar on his big day. While this is a cool premise, upon watching the short film, I could not help but think that the film would have benefitted from more scenes with their version of Dr. Loomis, or making the project about him exclusively.

The short film is funny, no doubt about it, but it would definitely have benefitted from more time in the oven. The crew would benefit from watching The Naked Gun or Airplane!  In your face parody can and does work sometimes, but this film would benefit from making more subtle references and jokes like those found in the afore-mentioned classic comedies.

The seeds are there, it just needs time to grow.

Now on to the use of licensed music. Most of it works, some if it leaves the viewer perplexed. If the crew were going to be insistent on using non-original music, the parody songs done by The Merkins would have been an infinitely better choice.

One thing that really stands out upon viewing the project is that it is very evident that there was fun to be had while filming, something that is lacking from big studio movies where everyone is there for a paycheck, not passion.

A Horror Zone Wedding, as the project exists in its current form, could benefit from being much shorter, somewhere in the 10-12 minute range and a reedit that would make the pop culture references a little less bold.

A Horror Zone Wedding is definitely not going to win any awards, but it is sure to win some hearts.
