Christine Mancini caught the acting bug while in grad school and has been performing ever since. Hailing from Pittsburgh, the talented performer brings her experience to the new Werewolf film, WOLF HOLLOW. Horror Nation sits down with Christine to discuss her latest role.
HN: What is your favorite Werewolf film?
CM: Not sure I have one. There have been some solid ones over the years. While it is not strictly a Werewolf film; the were-women from Trick R Treat were delightful. I recently watched Viking Wolf and really enjoyed it.
HN: If you could play any role, from any horror film, from anytime. Which role would you love to play?
CM: I’d love to play Annie Wilkes. I started reading Stephen King when I was in grade school and he has written so many wonderful women over the years. I can think of several others that I’d be all in for a remake. I also abjectly adore Kathy Bates’ work in every project she has ever done. So that is a heavy influence as to why as well.
HN: The Werewolf designs are fantastic in Wolf Hollow. What was it like to be on set with those beasts?
CM: Wonderful job by our sfx team for bringing those creatures to life on set. I’ve done a lot of horror. I have seen a lot of beasts/creatures and I have worked as a scare actor for thirty-one years. So, being on set with beasts is like being at home for me. My current haunt home is ScareHouse. Shout out to my extended family at Haunted Hills Hayride for their hospitality and great haunt family feel while we were filing at their property.
HN: Any funny stories from the set you would like to share?
CM: There is a line that was added in ADR that I am greatly looking forward to seeing Ceponis’ reaction to at the premiere.
HN: What method did you use to portray Sheriff Buck?
CM: I’d describe the method I use for all characters I’m asked to bring to life is a combination of Stella Adler’s method and the Practical Aesthetics: Essential Action method developed by David Mame and William H. Macy. I have never had any formal acting training; but, when I started reading about the different acting methods that are out there to see if what I do for characters was any kind of match to established ones…those two are the ones that seem to best describe it.
For Buck, she just wanted to keep her town safe and out of the hands of others(f##k those Orristown assholes). After so many years of helping the town keep the body count down she knew that the return of Ray, especially with another group of outsiders with him, could make her hit her breaking point.
HN: What makes you choose to audition for a role?
CM: The script. Pure and simple. The size of the role, the pay, who is making it, who else is attached to it…minor factors for me. If I read the script and it is a character that I want to bring to life. I’ll audition and THEN we can figure out if the “details” are ones I can agree to if I’m cast. I’ve had lead, supporting and tertiary roles in my projects. I’ve loved every moment as every character I’ve done so far. While horror is my favorite, I have done work in every genre so far.
