From Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania comes the tremendously talented Noah Welter. This theatre trained actor stars in Mark Cantu’s highly anticipated Werewolf film, Wolf Hollow. Noah sits down with Horror-Nation to discuss the genre.
HN: What is your favorite Werewolf film?
NW: Probably Werewolves Within. I absolutely adore horror comedies, that film is the perfect example of that genre. Sam Richardson is also one of the most fun actors to watch on screen.
HN: If you could play any role, from any horror film, from any period of time. What role would you have loved to play?
NW: That’s a tough one. I could list hundreds of roles I would have wanted to play, but I genuinely think one of the most dynamic and interesting would be Norman Bates.
HN: You play the role of Ray Neuri in Wolf Hollow. Ray is a complex character. What method of acting do you use to personify all of those ranges of emotions?
NW: Ray was genuinely one of the most complex characters I have ever had to portray. The journey that I had to mentally and physically go through within the movie was something that took a long time to prepare for. The main thing that I utilized to bring Ray to life was a Chekhov acting exercise called Imaginary Centers. This was used in tandem with a multitude of other acting techniques to fully become and understand Ray. The entire film was a transformation for this character in one way or another, so I had to use everything I could to really bring him to life.
HN: The creature designs are fantastic. What was it like being on set with those big beasts?
NW: Life changing. I have been a long-time horror fan. I grew up watching creature features and all I ever wanted to do was be on set creating a film with one. Being on set with a werewolf towering over me was a childhood dream come true.
HN: What is the greatest challenge of working on an independent film? What is the most rewarding?
NW: The greatest challenge is one of the greatest strengths of indie filmmaking: The adaptive nature of an indie film set is beautiful. We are not working with big budgets, so we always have to be resourceful with what we have. The absolute best part is the people, especially within the horror community. The people I met this past summer, I still talk to everyday. I made lifelong friends the summer I ran through the woods being chased by Werewolves.
HN: What is a film that I could watch everyday for the rest of my life?
NW: Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. It is truly one of my comfort movies. My whole life has been underscored by horror films, but this has and always will be my favorite one.
