By Ryan Dailey

If one were to add a VHS filter over the top of this film, it would be right at home on a shelf next to Dr. Giggles and Maniac Cop. Dave Kerr has once again delivered a masterpiece in which he somehow blends two completely different eras of slashers/horror, the video nasty era and the early 2000’s into one hell of an entertainment experience. This reviewer sucks at titles, but if he were hard pressed to think of one, “Y2Nasty” would be somewhere in the top five list of names. When taking the Dave Kerr experience, the viewer will find themselves reminded of such films as Don’t Go in the Woods and in the next breath be reminded of movies in the Freddy Vs. Jason or See No Evil.

The plot is as simple as it is timeless. At its core lies a tale of revenge and paying for poor life choices. When a prank goes awry it leaves one friend institutionalized, her brother dead and the remainder of the group dealing with the aftermath. Years after the tragedy, the remaining friends decide to have a reunion at a lush cabin owned by one of their acquaintances. Little do they know that there was a break out at a certain mental institution and there is a Slasher Nurse ready to write out a prescription of pain and death.

Slasher Nurse is on par with Kerr’s other offerings, such as Bloody Summer Camp, meaning that on top of being highly engrossing and pure horror gold, this is another one of his films that could become comfort food to any denizen of the horror nation.

The acting is very much as good as it was in Bloody Summer Camp, even featuring the return of Felissa Rose of Sleepaway Camp fame. The filmmaking is as competent as ever, Kerr definitely showing that he has the chops to make films that stand the test of time as well as taking armchair directors to school. Even the song that plays over the closing credits by Suicide Puppets slaps with the energy of the entire Resident Evil soundtrack. Long story short, this film is indie slasher perfection from start to finish.

The Slasher Nurse will be available to stream on most platforms in the coming few months from this writing.
