Heading into the SXSW 2025 festival is writer/director Cam Banfield’s satiric short horror film, How Was Your Weekend. With acclaimed performers James Morosini and Rachael Harris leading the cast, audiences will be jumping toward this terror trip with high expectations.
Steven returns to his office after a rough weekend which involved a relationship breaking fight with his girlfriend. As the zombie-like inhabitants cruise through an endless corporate maze of cubicles, often reciting the same Monday morning banter, Steven has an awakening while zonking out into a subconscious depression. Has the trauma from the weekend awoken Steven to a mundane life that is truly a horror show dressed in business pants suits or is the return to the office appearing to be something sinister due to his misfortune.
Banfield presents a terrific terror insight into the repetitive corporate lifestyle. Forcing a smile while crying inside has become a more modern addressed issue in the business world and this short film plays almost as a nightmare H.R. film at an orientation from hell. Cinematographer Matt Clegg steals the short with several shots that turn an ordinary office into a carnival of carnage. How Was Your Weekend is a great short horror film that will have genre fans calling human resources in efforts to get a feature made.
