When an artist does not have to worry about hurting the feelings of the Mainstream movie going audience or answer the notes given to them by some out of touch producer that sees film as an investment and not art , the horror nation gets rewarded with films like IVI ELV. Director Luigi Scarpa is in the rare category of filmmakers that can tell a story visually, not relying on flashy effects or A-list celebrities. Scarpa uses his tools and knowledge to bring a short approximately twelve minute short film that tells more of a narrative than most films coming from the West.
Without relying on unnecessary dialog, as the protagonist is alone through the whole short, Scarpa tells the tale of one man’s journey through his past, paying atonement whether he wants to or not.
The director is one that is very savvy when it comes to his art. He knows where to place his camera, how to make it follow his actors and even the lighting to use. This is a fact that is more impressive due to the fact that he has only been a student of the medium since 2007.
Without spoiling the whole short for those that have not seen the film, just know that IVI ELV has garnered praise from many, many different sources and it is well-deserved.
IVI ELV is currently making the rounds in the festival circuits. Follow the artists’ social media to stay arrest on the release dates.
