The hottest trailer to hit the horror circuit over the last week has been, “Massacre Academy.” With nearly two decades of experience, writer/director/producer Mark Cantu appears to be brining the horror nation a new icon. A gorgeous looking high tempo trailer alludes to the return of a crazed killer in a creepy clown mask, coming back to unleash hell. While the age-old tale of female leads in peril may sound familiar, Cantu promises depth, originality, and strength from his final girls. The Texas State University-San Marcos graduate is well known for his quick paced editing and snappy written dialogue. The talented artist and his production company, Cineworx, have had several projects distributed world wide and the list of official selections and awards at festivals is staggering. Not only are horror hounds in for a treat, but with Cantu’s background in comedy and former Howard Stern show icon Jackie Martling in the picture, audiences can probably expect a few laughs to accompany the slaughter. Horror legend Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and the multi-gifted Dave Sheridan (Scream) give additional clout to this eagerly awaited indie gem that looks more and more A-list with every tidbit that trickles out of this production. A new sinister looking horror icon, experienced and talented ensemble, and multi-dimensionally written characters have everyone at horror nation ready to enroll into this academy.
